Strange weather, stranger things growing

Walking around the garlic patch last week, thinking about planting again later this year, we came across this. Initial cries of, ‘it’s a chicken foot’ were soon replaced by ‘it smells’.

After poking at it , finding another unopened one and taking photos, we retired inside and consulted ‘A field guide to Australian Fungi’. Appears we might have Clathrus archeri (stinkhorn) growing in the paddock. Complete with ‘malodorous gleba’
